Carving is Good for the Spirit

Having served as a middle school and high school principal, as well as teaching science for eleven years, I am enjoying carving walking sticks. The pressure of administration and the day to day operation of a public school is very challenging.

The difficult problems of drugs, child abuse and the threat of weapons entering your building does detract from the educational goals that you want to see accomplished in the classroom. Teachers have an awesome responsibility to meet the needs of a very diverse student population. Responsible parenting and the need for dinner time conversations with your children need to happen. How was your day today? Tell me about it. Moms and dads need to be there.

While carving, I often think about the good things and the bad things that occurred over my near 40 years. Mostly good things. Carving soothes the spirit.
