The QFLEA Next Generation Flea Market is comprised of hundreds of small business members. I still believe that the small business is the backbone of this country. Small businesses like ours represent almost 90% of the employer firms and account for more than half of the private sector jobs. We've just come through one of the most turbulent economic downturns in history and yet the small businesses continue to hang in there, providing that special brand of personalized service to their loyal clientele. We want to continue to support our small businesses. We like the idea that we can still deal with local merchants, even if our online approach makes a vendor from the other side of the country a local vendor for us. Given a choice of a small business or a large conglomerate, we choose to continue patronizing our small business friends, and we hope you do too. The small businesses support local causes and use local products which help stimulate the economies in their own neighborhoods. They are accessible to their customers in a more direct way than the larger "big box" stores whose customer service departments are certainly less personalized. How many phone menu buttons do you want to press in order to be connected to that call center, somewhere out there. I'd much rather contact my small business vendor, who has a vested interest in satisfying me as a customer in the hopes of getting repeat business from me. Most of our vendors are individual or family owned and operated and have in business for many years. For some of them, the websites you see are more than just a bunch of computer code. It is more than even a job. It's their lives. They pour themselves into their creative craftwork and the products they create. These are the kinds of businesses who deserve our complete support. Given a choice of filling the gas tank, driving to the mall, searching for parking and standing on line at that impersonal chain store, or clicking to a QFLEA vendor and making my choices, I'll take QFLEA every time. A drill sergeant had just chewed out one of his cadets, and as he was walking away, he turned to the cadet and said, "I guess when I die you'll come and dance on my grave." The cadet replied, "Not me, Sarge ... no sir! I promised myself that when I got out of the Army I'd never stand in another line!" |
