Aromatherapy: Recapture Your Childhood Spirit
by Patricia Bowe - Serenquility Bath & Body Shoppe
Many people start to feel really down at holidays time. They brace themselves with a sense
of dread as they prepare for the massive shopping, the planning, and an instant headache just thinking about it all.
I was one of those people. I used to dispair as early as October 1, wondering what I was going
to get family for Christmas, if I was going to have enough money, what if they didn’t like their gift, if it was my turn to cook Thanksgiving dinner ...
But a whiff of a Christmas Wreath candle one year seemed to take that all away and replace it with memories of childhood. Suddenly, those questions didn’t matter anymore. I decided that from now on I was just going to go with the flow and experience the holidays with a sense of joy and happiness. I began to see the approaching holidays as a child would, looking forward to everything from buying candy corn to munch on Halloween, to digging into turkey and plum pudding on Christmas Day. I found my childhood excitement resurfacing and I found myself surprisingly counting down the days to Christmas! My imagination was released and now each year I think about what my heart wants to give as opposed to what people tell you what they want and to me that is more joyous and more appreciated.
With just one scent, my mind was immediately elevated from one of confusion and worry,
to a sense of happiness, taking me back to my childhood. There are so many scents
available in many items from bath and body products to candles, potpourri, smelly jellies and so much more to uplift your mood and bring back your holiday spirit. You may want to try apple, spiced pumpkin, candy corn, cranberry or fig fragrances for autumn that can remind one of jumping in a pile of leaves, or dressing for Halloween, or Thanksgiving morning when you used to watch the parade and help Mom prepare dinner. The scents of baked cookies,
Christmas pine, cinnamon and bayberry can have you singing Jingle Bells before Thanksgiving.
So, if you find yourself stressed because your kids are screaming about the latest toy, or this is your first year for creating the overwhelming Thanksgiving meal, step back. Tell the little ones to pipe down for a minute, retreat to your quiet space and take in the scent of your favorite fragrance, whether it's in candle form, or a nice hot soak with a scoop or two of fragrant bath salts or bubble bath. Let the holiday spirit wash over you the way it used to when you were a child and emerge with a new sense of what the holidays are really all about - family, togetherness, love, blessings and what you give from your heart.

Turkey Tales
We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Not everyone did. Here are some stories about real calls to turkey help lines.
With no room in the fridge, a Colorado woman put her turkey in a snow bank to store. She called Turkey Talk-Line asking if it's okay to eat after storing in the snow. However, a heavy blanket of snow had fallen. The white, featureless landscape made it impossible for her to find where she had buried the bird.
A Kentucky woman called in 1993, asking how to get her Chihuahua out of a turkey. The tiny dog dived right into the carcass and couldn't get out. Pulling the dog and shaking the turkey both failed. Finally, she was instructed to make the hole bigger so that the pooch could escape.
The Reynolds Wrap Turkey Tips Line took a query from a woman who wanted to know if she could cook her turkey by placing it in a Reynolds Oven Bag, putting it in the window in the back of her car, and letting the heat from the sun bake the turkey.
This one speaks for itself, "Your directions say to roast the turkey, but my oven says only bake or broil. What do I do?"
